CFP: Culture & Agriculture Robert M. Netting Fellows
Robert M. Netting Fellows 2019
For more than a decade, the Culture & Agriculture section of the AAA has recognized outstanding student papers focused on themes of culture and agriculture through the Robert M. Netting Paper Prize. This year, we will institute a new format in which we welcome graduate paper submissions for the selection of two Robert M. Netting fellows. This fellowship is intended to provide a mentoring experience, whereby fellows will work with senior C&A section members to hone and refine their paper submissions with the goal of working towards manuscript submission to the section journal CAFE (or to another related journal of the author’s choice). Mentoring will involve up to three phone meetings and an in-person meeting during the AAAs based upon mutual availability. In addition to receiving valuable feedback while building a relationship with a senior C&A mentor, the selected fellows will each receive a $500 award.
Graduate paper submissions should draw on relevant literature from any subfield of anthropology and present data from original research related to livelihoods based on crop, livestock, or fishery production, forestry, and/or management of agricultural and environmental resources. Papers should be single-authored, limited to a maximum of 7,000 words, including endnotes, appendices, and references, and should follow Chicago format style.
Papers already published or accepted for publication are not eligible. Please submit your paper as a Word document. To assist the review team in achieving a blind review process, please omit your name from the paper. Only one submission per student is allowed. Submitters need not be members of the American Anthropological Association but must be enrolled students (Note: students graduating in the Spring or Summer of 2019 are eligible). The submission deadline is September 7th, 2019 and all submissions should be sent to Kourtney Collum at kcollum@coa.edu.
